Investigating dangerous occurrences and incidents
The investigation of dangerous occurrences and incidents at work (including accidents) also forms an important part of the Section's work. The outcome of these investigations usually involves the giving of advice to the employer, however, if a blatant breach of the law is identified as one of the main reasons for an incident happening, then formal action will be taken.
Employers have to by law report certain incidents, including certain work-related injuries, diseases and dangerous occurrences. Further information on the reporting of such incidents can be obtained by contacting the commercial and licensing team.
It should be noted that the main objective of undertaking the incident investigation is to prevent the recurrence of the incident and not the pursuance of compensation claims on behalf of the injured party or their representatives.
