Pest Control
Pest Control - an introduction
What is Pest Control?
Wherever people live there are creatures which can be identified as pests, some because they threaten health or wealth, others because they are a nuisance or may cause damage.
Pest management covers a wide variety of activities to eliminate or reduce the problems caused by these creatures.
Importance of Biology and Behaviour
Any considered control programme will only be effective if the creature, believed to be the pest causing a problem is accurately identified prior to the start of control. Correct identification will overcome factors such as non-target species, legislation and environmental issues and allow the correct actions to be detailed.
Understanding and utilising behavioural characteristics will also assist with the type of control program that may be proposed.
What is Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
IPM is a combined approach to solving pest problems by collecting all available evidence and information in order to produce an effective control program that delivers maximum efficiency with minimal impact on the location and environment.
IPM Surveying
Surveying gives the pest control officer information on the area, pest activity, harbourage, runs, droppings, smear marks, live sightings, potential food, hygiene issues, proofing requirements and hazards.
Pest Identification
Correct identification of pest species is needed so the correct plan of action can be made.
Plan of Action
Developing a control programme will include determining poisons to be used or whether traps are more suitable, the location of any baits or traps, house keeping requirements, proofing recommendations and number and frequency of visits.
The pest control officer will discuss with the client how the problem will be resolved from the outset using methods set within specified legislation.
North Warwickshire Borough Councils Pest Control Officer is willing to answer any of your pest control questions or queries.
Payments and Refunds
Animal warden staff can offer refunds if a paid for treatment cannot be carried out or a fee is otherwise unnecessary. Jobs should only be paid for by credit/debit card in advance, unless in exceptional circumstances for WASPS ONLY by cheque on site, and NEVER by cash. People not having a bank account, cheque book or debit/credit card are advised to seek payment from another person - friend, family or neighbour? - to whom they can give cash. This decision is to protect the staff from the risks of carrying cash - OUR STAFF CARRY NO CASH.Pages in Pest Control
