High Speed Rail (HS2)

North Warwickshire Borough Council is not the responsible authority for this project. The Government has set up a body responsible for its delivery - HS2 Ltd. Their website carries most of the relevant information.

The route will pass through North Warwickshire. A new interchange station is to be constructed where the line passes the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) and Birmingham Airport, just outside of the Borough. North of this interchange, the route will pass west of Tamworth towards Lichfield, where it will join the West Coast Main Line for services to Manchester, Liverpool and Scotland. A junction at Water Orton will provide a link into Birmingham city centre, which would follow the existing rail corridor and terminate at a new station at Curzon Street. You can view the proposed route and detailed maps here.
