Tame Valley Wetlands Landscape Scheme
At 100km long, the River Tame is the largest tributary of the River Trent. It has a number of important tributaries, the most significant of which are the rivers Rea, Cole, Blythe and Anker.
Despite damage in the past, the river is now cleaner and the old gravel working sites now help to form the largest series of wetlands in the area. The Tame Valley has a wide variety of habitats that host a rich diversity of wildlife and rare species. This important river corridor is also a vital north-south migration route, providing essential resting and feeding places for hundreds of migrating birds. Lea Marston Lakes, Kingsbury Water Park, RSPB Middleton Lakes, Shustoke Reservoir and Whitacre Heath Nature Reserve all lie within the Tame Valley area.
Warwickshire Wildlife Trust is currently working with a number of organisations, including the Borough Council, to develop and fund a scheme, which will conserve the built and natural heritage of the area and improve its accessibility. They are interested in finding out how people use the Tame Valley and need your support to help attract funding for the scheme.
You can help by filling in a consultation questionnaire by Friday 16th December at www.northwarks.gov.uk/tamevalley
The Wild:LIFE Project is now on Facebook!
Keep up to date with events and activities by joining the project on Facebook or following it on Twitter. The Wild:LIFE Project runs until October 2013 and will create four Local Nature Reserves within North Warwickshire. These will be at Linear Park in Kingsbury, Dafferns Wood in New Arley, Cole End Park in Coleshill and Abbey Green Park in Polesworth. Events include bat walks, pond creation, tree planting, local wildlife information and youth activities. There's lots going on and an opportunity to have your say on the development and management of the sites.
The funding for the Wild:LIFE project comes from Access to Nature, a scheme run by Natural England and funded by the Big Lottery Fund.
