Mancetter Big Day Out: WWI Centenary Celebration

On Sunday 23 September 2018, residents and visitors can enjoy a free family fun day event at Mancetter Recreation Ground which will celebrated the centenary of the end of World War One. Between 11.00am and 3.00pm, families will be able to enjoy an array of military themed entertainment and stalls, including FREE inflatables, climbing wall and assault courses, demonstrations, military vehicles (to celebrate 100 years of the RAF we also have a Spitfire from Simply Spitfires) along with a variety of normal Big Day Out activity.

Raffle, BDO


Five lucky raffle winners can have their photo taken (or a chosen friend / relative) in the cockpit of the Spitfire. Anyone who is covered by the Armed Forces Covenant can register at or at the Branch Out Bus on the day to be entered into the raffle competition.  Photo’s can only be taken just after 3pm on Sunday.

Check if you are eligible to enter - Our Armed Forces Community includes:

• Regular Personnel currently serving; Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force
• Merchant Navy served for at least one day on active service
• Reservist both Regular and Volunteer, Veterans served for at least one day, as a Regular or Reservist
• Families Immediate family; Spouses, civil or other partners, children for whom the veteran or partner are responsible
• Bereaved Immediate Family, Service Personnel or Veterans who have died

Two of Britain's Got Talents finalists the D-Day Darlings will be singing some wartime favourites and closing the event with 'We'll Meet Again', OJM Music Choir will also be engaging the crowds.  There will be drums and drill demonostrations by local cadets and children's 'Have-a-Go session, with adults able to participate in a 'Boot Cap Fitness' session.

30th Signal Regiment will be attending along with Veterans Contact Point, SSAFA, Help for Heroes, Royal British Legion, Poppy appeal and there will be various wartime information stands.

Rewarding Dog Training will be holding a themed dog show, could your pooch be Sergeant Smiler, the Flying Ace or the Forces Sweetheart? Dogs can also try treats from Della May's Doggy Bakery or you could get a new furry friend from the Grey Hound Trust or Ruff Luck Rescue.

In addition, visitors will be able to get their face painted 'army' style, view the produce and products that the stalls have to offer, books, jewlery, childrens toys, etc. It's a great day out for all the family so come down and enjoy the day!
