Why it's dangerous to collect bins in snow and ice

Difficulties collecting in ice and snow

Collection vehicles experience the same problems as other vehicles in ice and snow but have the potential to cause greater damage to road users, pedestrians and our own work force. This YouTube video shows what can happen when a bin wagon starts sliding. It's an old clip, not one of ours, but it's worth a watch!

Pulling bins to the collection vehicle also carries risks in icy weather as the heavy weight and slippery surface can cause slips and falls.

In the event of ice and snow managers assess the level of risk involved and a decision is made whether to suspend collections.

We will always endeavour to keep our website up to date with the latest collection information, in snowy and icy conditions. We also put updates on Twitter and Facebook:
