What do we do?
The Borough Council aims to prevent noise nuisance and loss of amenity by its policies on development in order that conflicting land and property uses are not side-by-side. This results in certain applications being refused or having conditions placed on them.

We also negotiate on major building projects, such as the M6(Toll), to control noise at source before it becomes a problem and to assist the delivery of statutory noise insulation and compensation schemes.
As the authority which issues various licenses for public entertainment, we also try to minimise and mitigate the impacts of noise on our communities by controlling those activities through conditions attached.
As a landlord, the Council has tenancy rules regarding how its residents should behave towards each other. Visit the 'estate management' information.
The Council is also required to investigate all complaints and allegations of nuisance, and where necessary, take enforcement action to remedy problems. Typical complaint subjects include barking dogs, loud music and alarms.
What are the objectives of this service and its standards?
The Council has set as one of its objectives "to be responding to complaints of statutory nuisance and unsatisfactory private sector housing within three working days."
If noise relates to a construction activity, or a place of entertainment, or involves matters relating to planning permission or planning conditions, other agencies CAN become involved and other measures to resolve the issue may be applied. These would be explained to you.
Certain sorts of noise cannot be dealt with under these powers, including: noise from aircraft in flight; noise from vehicles travelling on the roads; noise from people in the street.
