Update 27/03/2020

Council to contact businesses that are eligible for support

North Warks. Council is working to deliver the government-funded business grants that were announced by the Chancellor.

In response to the impact coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions are having on businesses, the government announced an emergency support package.

It includes a business rates holiday for certain retail, hospitality and leisure businesses in England for the 2020 to 2021 tax year, which has also been extended to non-local authority providers of childcare. Eligible businesses do not need to do anything to receive this support. We have already sent out a large number of amended bills to those businesses concerned and will continue to identify and award all businesses that are eligible 100% off their bills in accordance with government guidance.

Further support is also being offered in the form of two grants, which the Council will also administer for its local businesses.

The first is a small business grant of £10,000 for most businesses that qualify for small business rate relief or rural rate relief.

The second is a retail, hospitality and leisure business grant of £25,000 for most businesses that have a premises with a rateable value of less than £51,000, and are eligible for the business rate holiday under the extended retail discount scheme.

Qualifying businesses with a rateable value up to and including £15,000 will receive £10,000. Those with a rateable value above £15,000 and below £50,999 will receive £25,000.

The council will be making contact with eligible businesses over the coming days by email, telephone and post to request the information that will enable it to make the payment of these grants as soon as possible. We also hope to have an online facility available in the near future to enable the necessary details to be submitted in the most efficient manner. Please continue to check our website and social media for further updates in the coming days.

Should you have any query on these matters, please email businessrates@northwarks.gov.uk and we will endeavor to reply as soon as possible.
