North Warwickshire Borough Council continues to monitor ongoing adverse weather conditions, with snowfall still affecting the borough.
*There is a new article which provides residents with more updated information*
At approximately 5:30am today, the Council implemented its Business Continuity Plan to ensure the safety of staff and residents while prioritising essential services.
Staff who have been able to attend work are currently focused on snow clearance and gritting at essential buildings and key access routes across the borough.
Service updates
-
Refuse and recycling collections are suspended today. The Council hopes to catch up on missed collections on Saturday, subject to road conditions and safe access.
-
Grounds and cleansing staff who have been able to attend work have been redeployed to support snow clearance and gritting of key buildings and walkways, in line with the Business Continuity Plan.
-
Cleansing services are expected to resume tomorrow, carrying out normal Saturday activities, including litter bin emptying and additional gritting where required.
-
Council offices remain open, with access paths gritted. Staff are encouraged to work from home where possible.
-
Highways teams have been gritting roads overnight and continue to do so today.
Next steps
Conditions will be reassessed tomorrow morning, provided snowfall does not turn to black ice. If it is safe to do so, the Council will operate as much of the service as possible, ensuring staff can travel safely and that roads are accessible.
Rural properties that have experienced a missed collection today and may not be accessible until Monday will be permitted additional side waste to manage any build-up. Further updates on this will be shared via the Council’s social media channels.
Contingency arrangements
Subject to ongoing weather conditions and in line with the Business Continuity Plan, green waste collections may be paused for an additional week. This would allow crews to be reallocated to focus on properties affected by missed collections today.
Packington Park is due for collection today; however, access is unlikely until next Friday. Dirt tracks in this area are currently concealed by snow and are expected to become flooded as conditions thaw. Clearance collections will be provided once access is possible, and a smaller 4x4 vehicle may be used if required. This situation will be reassessed on Monday.
The Council thanks residents for their patience and understanding as services are managed safely during this period of severe weather.
