The Government’s Warwickshire Local Government Reorganisation consultation closes 26 March. Have your say online or via paper forms.
Residents, businesses, and stakeholders across Warwickshire are reminded that the Government’s consultation on Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) is closing soon, with the deadline set for Thursday 26 March 2026.
The seven week consultation, launched by Government, invites people to share their views on how local government in Warwickshire should be reorganised. At present, Warwickshire operates a two-tier system comprising Warwickshire County Council, alongside the five District and Borough Councils: North Warwickshire Borough, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough, Rugby Borough, Stratford District, and Warwick District.
Local government reorganisation is being considered as part of a national Government policy to move from two-tier arrangements to single-tier, unitary councils in certain areas of England. Warwickshire is among the areas included in this national programme.
Government are seeking views on two options:
- One single unitary council for the whole of Warwickshire, or
- Two separate unitary councils for the north and south of the county
How do you take part?
Residents are encouraged to share their views before the consultation closes. The quickest and easiest way to take part is by completing the online survey.
The consultation is open until 11:59pm on Thursday 26 March 2026.
Paper copies of the consultation form are available from:
- Main council office reception areas
- Warwickshire County Council libraries
Leader of the Council, Councillor David Wright said:
“Back in November 2025, we submitted our preferred option which is two councils for the north and south rather than a single unitary for the whole of Warwickshire for Local Government Reorganisation to Government. The consultation now nearing its close is an important opportunity for residents, businesses, and stakeholders to share their views directly with Government before it makes its final decision.
I would encourage everyone to take a few minutes to complete the consultation before the deadline. Your feedback will help Government understand local priorities and the potential impacts of reorganisation on our communities.
We expect to receive the Government’s decision in the Summer, and we will provide further updates as soon as more information becomes available. Thank you to everyone who has engaged with the process so far as we move into the final stage of this significant change for local government in Warwickshire.”
