10 kittens sat in an open bag looking up at the camera

Street cleaners David and Carl found 14 abandoned kittens at Royal Meadow Drive early on 25 April.

North Warwickshire Borough Council Street Cleaners David and Carl made an unexpected and distressing discovery while carrying out their duties at Royal Meadow Drive Recreational Area at around 6:30am on Saturday 25 April.

While working in the area, the pair found a bag containing 14 abandoned kittens, including ten aged approximately four to five weeks and four newborn kittens still with umbilical cords attached. Thankfully, all of the kittens were found to be alive.

Recognising the urgency of the situation, David and Carl acted quickly to ensure the animals received immediate care. The kittens were taken to Carl’s home before being safely transported to the vets for assessment and treatment.

Veterinary staff confirmed that the newborn kittens would require intensive care, including placement in incubators and feeding every three hours.

North Warwickshire Borough Council would like to commend David and Carl for their quick action, professionalism and compassion, and extend thanks to Carl’s family for their immediate support in assisting with the animals prior to veterinary treatment.
