A new weekly Food Waste Collection Service for households across North Warwickshire from 6 July 2026, ensuring food waste can be recycled and transformed into renewable energy and fertiliser.
The service is being introduced in line with the Government's Simpler Recycling legislation, which requires all local authorities to provide weekly food waste collections to households. The new service is fully funded by the Government and forms part of the Council's ongoing commitment to improving recycling rates and supporting environmental sustainability.
Residents have already received their food waste caddies, liners and information packs ahead of the service launch. From 6 July, food waste, including leftovers, fruit and vegetable peelings, meat, fish, bones, bread, rice, pasta, tea bags and coffee grounds, will be collected weekly. Food waste will be collected separately in a dedicated food waste vehicle on the same day as residents' existing waste and recycling collections.
In addition, from 6 July 2026, the Council will launch a new household Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment collection service. The free kerbside service will enable residents to recycle household batteries and small electrical items on their usual collection day. Flats that currently have shared communal bins for refuse and recycling will receive this service later in the year.

"We are pleased to announce we are launching a new weekly food waste collection service for residents across North Warwickshire. Each year, significant amounts of food waste end up in general rubbish bins. By separating food waste for recycling, residents can make a direct contribution to reducing environmental impact.
Alongside this, we are delighted to introduce a new weekly doorstep collection service for batteries and small (small = up to the size of a four-slice toaster) electrical items. This initiative aims to help prevent bin wagon fires, which can cost over £250,000 to replace, while making it easier for residents to dispose of these items safely. We would like to thank residents for their support and encourage everyone to make full use of the new services from 6 July.”
