North Warwickshire residents, businesses and community groups are invited to have their say on the Draft Local Plan, helping shape how the Borough could grow and develop up to 2045.
North Warwickshire Borough Council is inviting residents, businesses and community organisations to have their say on the Draft Local Plan following approval by the Local Development Framework Sub-Committee on Thursday 25 June 2026. This is a statutory document that all Councils have to provide.
The Draft Local Plan sets out a long-term vision for how North Warwickshire could grow and develop up to 2045. It includes proposals for where new homes, employment land and infrastructure could be located, alongside policies to help protect the Borough’s environment, heritage and local character, as well as its rural setting.
The consultation provides an opportunity for anyone who lives, works or has an interest in North Warwickshire to comment on the draft proposals before the Local Plan is finalised.
The consultation will run for six weeks from Thursday 9 July until Wednesday 19 August 2026.
Comments received during the consultation will be carefully considered and will help inform the next stage of the Local Plan.
The Draft Local Plan also includes proposed site allocations and sets out policies covering housing, employment, transport and infrastructure, as well as climate change, biodiversity, design and community facilities.
Residents are encouraged to take part by reading the Draft Local Plan and submitting their comments online. Every response received during the consultation will be considered as part of the next and final stage of the plan-making process.

Councillor David Wright, Leader of North Warwickshire Borough Council, said:
“The Local Plan is an important and key document prepared by the Council, helping to guide how North Warwickshire may develop over the coming years. It considers where future homes, jobs and infrastructure could be provided, while also seeking to protect the characteristics that make our Borough a special place to live and work. This is not the final plan, and we want to hear from as many people as possible before any final decisions are made. Whether you support the proposals, have concerns or have suggestions for improvement, I would encourage everyone to read the draft and share their views.
Government require us to provide housing site for no less than 7280 additional dwellings which is 364 per year as well as strategic and local employment sites. We also have to identify sites for Gypsies and Travellers, and Government has made changes to the rules on Green Belt which currently covers 60% of our Borough which necessitates a review. There are almost 30,000 residential properties in the Borough at present.
As part of governments drive to provide 1.5 million homes between 2024 – 2029 we must identify sites to meet our allocation otherwise developers are likely to obtain planning permission at appeal in the absence of an up-to-date plan.
The timetable to produce a new Local Plan is extremely tight as we need to do this by the end of December 2026. We therefore wanted our community to know what sites are being put forward for potential residential, and employment uses and are therefore doing this additional round of consultation. It is particularly a challenge for this Council as Government withdrew £80 million funding to support infrastructure for new development off the A5, so this needs to be reviewed.
