Two people have been issued with £1,000 Fixed Penalty Notices after admitting responsibility for a fly-tipping incident in Astley.

The offence took place on 30 May 2026 on Howe Green Lane, Astley, where a male and female were captured on a landowner's trail camera emptying waste from the rear of a vehicle onto land.

Footage of the incident was shared online by the landowner and quickly gained attention on social media. Following reports of the offence, Warwickshire Police's Rural Crime Team launched enquiries and worked closely with North Warwickshire Borough Council to identify those responsible.

Working in partnership with Warwickshire Police, North Warwickshire Borough Council carried out its own investigation into the fly-tipping offence. Both individuals were formally interviewed and admitted responsibility for the illegal dumping of waste.

As a result, Police seized their vehicle under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, and each offender has been issued with a £1,000 Fixed Penalty Notice.

Councillor Margaret Bell, Chair of Community and Environment Board, said:

"Fly-tipping is a selfish and illegal act that damages the environment, blights our countryside and places an unnecessary burden on landowners and taxpayers.

This case demonstrates the value of partnership working between North Warwickshire Borough Council and Warwickshire Police. Thanks to rapid enquiries and clear evidence, those responsible were identified and held accountable.

We would encourage anyone who witnesses fly-tipping to report it so that appropriate action can be taken.”

Fly-tipping can be reported by visiting the North Warwickshire Borough Council website and by using the North Warwickshire Borough Council app.
