On 7th August 2019 a borough council CCTV operator, Alison helped Warwickshire Police in the arrest of a missing North Warwickshire teenager.
The day before the arrest PC 1241 Reed issued the missing and wanted teenagers’ photo to North Warwickshire Borough Council’s CCTV control room based on information that he was staying and had been seen in the Atherstone area.
CCTV operator Alison contacted the police by radio at 11:30pm the next day to tell them that she had spotted the teenager outside a local hotel in Atherstone. However, due to police dealing with serious incidents they were unable to attend straight away. Alison spent the next 3-4 hours ensuring she didn’t lose sight of him, on one occasion he left but was followed using the town’s CCTV.
At 4:00am police units gathered together and attended the location, Alison assisted them throughout and provided information about entrances and exits for the police to cover. By 4:10am the teen was arrested and taken in to police custody.
This is an example of the great partnership work that takes place behind the scenes with North Warwickshire Borough Council and Warwickshire Police daily, with the help of Alison, PC 1241 Reed was able to safely find and arrest the prolific offender in the interest of our community’s safety.
