Work begins on the A5 Redgate to Higham Essential Maintenance Scheme

Published on Wednesday, 1st July 2020

Works to begin on 6th July 2020

Works on the A5 will commence on 6 July and will end during October 2020. This scheme covers the section of the A5 Watling Street between the Mancetter Island and Higham Roundabout, a 3.7 mile stretch of carriageway. The essential maintenance programme will help improve safety on this important route by delivering a complete resurfacing of the carriageway, including laying new road markings and High Friction Surfacing (anti-skid) at junctions as well as vegetation and drainage clearance.

The first two weeks of work will be re-surfacing and working in the areas between Mancetter (Atherstone) Roundabout and the Longabout, (Redgate roundabout with the A444).

To reduce the impact on the travelling public, and for safety reasons,  this work will be carried out overnight:

Monday – Thursday 8pm – 6am

Friday                       8pm – 8am

Saturday                   7pm – 10am

Sunday                     7pm – 6am

There will be some planned weekend road closures, during the day but you will be informed of them in advance

How will this affect A5 through traffic?

From 6 July for 2 weeks, the A5 will be closed (at night time) from Mancetter (Atherstone) roundabout to the Longabout (A444 Redgate roundabout)

The diversion route will be:

  • A5 to M42 J10-11 and A444

A local diversion signed route will also be in place for non-motorway traffic:
  • Via the B4114

NOTE: Signed diversion routes will be in place during any closures. Planned closures may be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. Where possible, we will notify you if there are any changes to the schedule.

What about local parking and businesses?

Mancetter Island (Atherstone) with local access will be maintained by the Traffic Management Company.

What about noise and lighting?

Noise levels will be kept as low as possible with the noisiest works between 8pm to midnight.
