COVID-19 Mobile Testing Unit arrives in Atherstone

North Warwickshire Borough Council, supported by Warwickshire County Council and the Ministry of Defence, are putting in place measures to enable a quick response to local outbreaks of Covid-19.

As part of the planned response in North Warwickshire sites have been identified to be used as Mobile Testing Centres.Woolpack Way car park in Atherstone has been assessed as the most suitable site in the area and a test of the Mobile Testing Unit (MTU) has been planned for Sunday 16th and Monday 17th August. On these days the car park will be closed to the public.

Leader of the Council, Cllr David Wright said, “I want to reassure residents of North Warwickshire that the arrival of the Mobile Testing Unit in Atherstone next week is part of our response plan to help us prepare should we need to undertake a local lockdown. This site has been identified as being the most suitable location in the Borough and does not in anyway mean that there is any cause for concern in Atherstone. I hope the MTU won’t be needed, but this forms an important part of our emergency planning and preparedness work.”

The MTU will be a live site and will be available for the public to use on those days, all tests must be pre-booked through or calling 119.  Once the effectiveness of the MTU at Woolpack Way has been confirmed, the unit will be available for deployment at that location within 24 hours of a local outbreak being identified.
