Countdown to the 2021 AJ Bell Women’s Tour begins
Published on Tuesday, 14th September 2021
With just 21 days until North Warwickshire welcomes the 2021 AJ Bell Women’s Tour for the first-ever individual time trial stage, plans are well under way for an exhilarating day of cycling.
History will be made when Atherstone hosts the first individual time trial in race history on stage three on Wednesday 6 October. Having welcomed three stage starts in Women’s Tour history, this will also mark the first time the North Warwickshire town will host a finish. The out-and-back route has been carefully designed to measure 16 kilometres / 10 miles, a nod to Britain’s rich history of time trialling over that distance. The anti-clockwise loop passes through Bentley, Birchley Heath, Mancetter before finishing in the heart of Atherstone.
Road closures will be in place on the day and communications to all those effected are being sent out, you can however view the full list road closures on our website www.northwarks.gov.uk/wt2021 which also contains full details of the event.
Leader of the Council, Cllr David Wright said, “Preparations are well under way and we are all excited for what promises to be another memorable edition of the Women’s Tour! We are honoured here in North Warwickshire to be hosting the first-ever individual time trial and we warmly welcome visitors to Atherstone and are hoping as many people as possible will come and support the riders on the day, whether you’re a keen cyclist or not, I’m sure all will be captivated by the thrill of the event.”
