North Warwickshire Borough Council set to launch grant scheme to help communities celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee
Published on Tuesday, 5th October 2021
North Warwickshire Borough Council will next week consider setting up a grant scheme for local community groups to celebrate next year’s Platinum Jubilee in style.
The 6th February 2022 marks the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the British throne and this will be the first ever Platinum Jubilee in the history of British monarchs.
No occasion such as this should pass without significant celebration and North Warwickshire Borough Council is looking to ensure none of the Borough’s communities miss out on the chance of holding an event. If approved the scheme would offer up to £500 to Town or Parish Councils and groups of residents to organise community based events like fun days and carnival. In addition, individuals will be able to apply for up to £100 for more localised events such as street parties.
All the events will take place during the special Bank Holiday weekend at the start of June. The Council’s Community Development Team have produced guides and a toolkit to help with the planning for the event (including things like road closures for street parties).
Speaking as the proposal was published, Councillor David Wright, Leader of the Council, said:
“The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee next year is a unique event and North Warwickshire Borough Council is keen to ensure that our communities can mark the occasion in style with events in their areas. Councillors will consider the scheme next week and I’m hoping it will match the funding we made available for the Diamond Jubilee and Queen’s 90th birthday.
Our Queen is an exceptional individual and I’m sure communities across North Warwickshire will want to join millions of people across the UK in marking this special occasion. The Queen brings a unifying influence to our country and I’m hoping the events will bring our communities together to celebrate in style. The work North Warwickshire Borough Council, Town and Parish Councils, our partners and local voluntary groups did, and continue to do, during the COVID pandemic shows the strength of the communities in North Warwickshire, and these events will be something for everyone to look forward to as we continue to recover from the outbreak.”
Details of how to apply for the scheme will be available on North Warwickshire Borough Council’s website once Councillors have considered the proposal and agreed the detail.
