Notice of Public Rights
The unaudited statement of accounts for the year ended 31 March 2021 has been published on the Council’s website at https://www.northwarks.gov.uk/downloads/file/9206/audit_of_accounts_2020_-_2021_-_notice_of_public_rights – audit of accounts. As these are unaudited, they may be subject to change.
The Council’s accounts are subject to external audit by the Auditor, Mrs. Maria Grindley of Ernst and Young LLP, 2 Blagrave Street, Reading RG1 1AZ (Contact details are Audit Manager – Suyash Maharaj - telephone 079 503 95027). Members of the public and local government electors have certain rights in the audit process.
Requests to view documents in person can only be accommodated on an appointment only basis. Therefore, please email your requests to the Corporate Director - Resources at firstname.lastname@example.org. This is to ensure that your rights as an elector under the Act are not affected.
1. From Monday 20th June 2022 to Friday 22nd August 2022 between 9.00am - 5.00pm any person may inspect the accounts of the Council for the year ended 31st March 2021 and certain related documents (comprising books, deeds, contracts, bills, vouchers and receipts) at the address given below. They may also make copies of the accounts and documents. Exceptions to this are as provided for in Section 26(4) to 26(6) of the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014 in relation to commercially confidential and personal information.
2. From Monday 20th June 2022 to Friday 22nd August 2022 a local government elector for the area of the Council, or his/her representative, may ask the audit manager questions about the accounts. Please contact the audit manager at the address given above to make arrangements to ask any questions.
3. From Monday 20th June 2022 to Friday 22nd August 2022 a local government elector for the area of the Council, or his/her representative, may object to the Council’s accounts (under section 27 of the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014) asking that the auditor issue a report in the public interest (under section 24 of the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014) and/or apply to the court for a declaration that an item in the accounts is contrary to law (under section 28 of the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014). Written notice of a proposed objection and the grounds on which it is made must be sent to the auditor at the address given above and copied to me at the address given below.
