Within its spring budget, the Government announced the availability of a national £60 million fund through which to support publicly accessible swimming pools with their increased cost pressures

The fund was split into two phases, Phase 1 provided £20 million of revenue funding to support successful applicants with the increased cost of utilities and pool water chemicals.

North Warwickshire Borough Council was successful in its application for Phase 1 funding and has received a one-off grant in the sum of £198,003.

This money can only be used to help with related cost pressures in the current financial year and Sport England will be closely monitoring the use and cost of utilities and chemicals at the Swimming Pool.

David Wright, Leader of the Council said; “We are delighted to receive this money for Atherstone Swimming Pool, less than half of the bidding local authorities received a grant award within Phase 1 of the Support Fund programme. This money will help the Council to meet the increased cost of utility bills and enable the facility to remain open for our residents.

The outcome of the Borough Council’s application to Phase 2 of the Support Fund programme which seeks to help with energy efficiency and carbon reduction work, will not be known until the end of the calendar year.
