Smoke Control Consultation
North Warwickshire Borough Council are running an 8-week consultation from Monday 21st September 2026 to Monday 16th November 2026 on Smoke Control Areas. We would like to hear your views on these proposals.
Smoke Control Areas are intended to help improve local air quality by reducing smoke emissions from domestic and commercial chimneys. They support efforts to protect public health, particularly for people who may be more vulnerable to air pollution, and help local authorities meet statutory air quality objectives. The designation of a Smoke Control Area can also contribute to a cleaner local environment by reducing smoke, soot, and associated nuisance.
This consultation seeks views on the proposed Smoke Control Area and its potential impacts on residents, businesses, and the wider community. At present, Smoke Control Areas within North Warwickshire cover only parts of the borough rather than the whole district. This means that residents and businesses in some areas are subject to smoke control restrictions, while others are not. As a result, the current arrangements provide only partial coverage and may lead to inconsistencies in the approach to managing smoke emissions and improving air quality across North Warwickshire. The Council is therefore seeking views on whether the existing coverage remains appropriate or whether changes should be considered.
