What are the Memory Cafés?

Our Memory Cafés offer a place where people can come together in a warm, supportive environment with others in a similar situation to themselves. Our cafés are run by our dedicated Home Instead Care Professionals and friendly volunteers, as well as bi-monthly visits from the Alzheimers Society and Community Mental team. We also offer a private room, should our members want to discuss more complex or sensitive matters.

For just £3 entry, we offer our members a warm cuppa and tasty treats. Each week there is a different activity such as painting, singing and dancing; we also have special guests which include ballroom dance instructors and opera singers!

What is Love to Move?

We also offer our popular Love To Move sessions regularly, which are specially designed by the British Gymnastics Foundation to get older people moving and functioning better. This seated exercise programme integrates the use of gymnastic foundation skills, cognitive stimulation therapy and social interaction activities. Above all, these sessions are fun and a great way to get the blood pumping!

Every week we will offer members different activities such as painting, singing and dancing to name a few. The British Gymnastics Foundation began working with experts in Japan in 2014 who deliver their own state-funded dementia-friendly gymnastics programme. Our memory café coordinators have completed the British Gymnastics Foundation's intensive Love To Move training and are certified instructors.

Bilaterally asymmetrical movement patterns encourage the left side and right side of the brain to process information independently, improving cognitive function, coordination and the ability to carry out activities of daily living more independently.

Above all, the programme is fun!

We will also be supported by organisations and healthcare professionals regularly. See the link below for more details.
