How do you dispose of batteries effectively?

Incorrect disposal of batteries can be fatal; incorrectly disposing of your batteries creates a huge risk for fires to start.

Your batteries will not be collected by your waste carriers. All household batteries, including dry cell batteries, which are found in laptops, phones, power tools and more, need to be taken to a supermarket that offers a battery recycling service.

The easiest way to get rid of your old batteries is to take them with you when you go shopping. Many supermarkets have battery bins, which will tell you which types of batteries are accepted. On the other hand, if your supermarket does not offer this, please take your batteries to your local tip.

Car batteries should be taken to a local tip or a garage that accepts car batteries.

Can I put batteries in the bin?

Batteries are NOT to be put in any of your household bins. There is a detrimental risk of the batteries exploding and causing fires.

The correct way to dispose of batteries would be to take them to your local supermarket, if they offer a battery disposal service, or take them to your local tip, which will depend on the type of battery, for example, a car battery would go to a tip or a garage that accepts them.

Where do I dispose of my vape batteries?

To dispose of your vape and its battery correctly, please remove the battery from the device, and take your battery to a battery recycling point. You can find your nearest drop-off point on the Recycle Now website. https://www.recyclenow.com/

Vapes with built-in batteries cannot be taken to battery recycling points. This is due to the vape including other electrical components.

You can recycle your vapes that have built-in batteries at specialist E-Waste centres. You can also find out where your nearest E-Waste centre is on the Recycle Now website.

When searching, please select a location that accepts ‘Laptops or Mobile Devices’, as there isn’t a section for vapes yet.
