Here are 6 top tips to keep yourself and your family safe this World Food Safety Day, 7th June 2025.

Cook It Right

Make sure meat, poultry, and fish are cooked to the correct internal temperature.

No pink chicken – ever! Use a food thermometer if possible.

Chill It Promptly

Leftovers? Cool and refrigerate them within 2 hours (or 1 hour if it’s a hot day)

Keep your fridge below 5 degrees Celsius and freezer at -18 degrees Celsius or colder.

Keep It Clean

Wash your hands before and after handling food, especially raw meat.

Clean worktops and utensils between preparing different foods.

Separate Raw & Ready-to-Eat Foods

Store raw meat on the bottom shelf of your fridge to avoid dripping.

Use separate chopping boards for raw meat and other foods.

Check Use-By Dates

Use-by dates are provided for your safety – don’t ignore them!

Best-before dates are about quality – use your judgement but stay cautious.

Power Cut? Know when to Ditch It

If your fridge has been off for more than 4 hours, some food may no longer be safe – especially meat, dairy and leftovers.
