The effect takes place from June 1st.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) have issued an important update that may affect your business operations if you offer non-surgical cosmetic procedures, such as anti-wrinkle injections or treatments involving prescription only medicines
From 1st June 2025, nurse and midwife prescribers will be required to conduct an in person face-to-face consultation with clients before prescribing non-surgical cosmetic medicines.
This change means that remote prescribing, such as via video call, will no longer be permitted for these treatments.
If you employ nurse or midwife prescribers, or work with external prescribers, you must ensure that face-to-face consultations are implemented into your service model before issuing prescriptions for aesthetic procedures. This change aligns with requirements already in place for other healthcare professionals and will help ensure client safety and regulatory compliance.
Further information is available on the NMC website, including an updated section titled ‘Useful information for prescribers’ which outlines the changes in more detail. Useful information for prescribers - The Nursing and Midwifery Council
