Investigation underway after fire damages brand new equipment in Abbey Green Park
Police are investigating a fire at a playground in Polesworth where play equipment was damaged by fire. The incident was reported to have taken place on Tuesday morning (3 June) at the Abbey Green Park, Grendon Road.
Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene and extinguished the fire. Vandals are believed to have set fire to a traffic cone, which resulted in the fire spreading to the mulch and burning part of the half pipe. The popular community skate park was recently refurbished and opened to the public in August 2024.
North Warwickshire Borough Council has filed a police report, and the Council is in the process of liaising with Polesworth Parish Council to obtain CCTV footage.
The area of Abbey Green Park is currently closed to the public. The Council advises all residents to avoid the site and refrain from using the equipment until it has been replaced and deemed safe for public use.
