Positive progress has been made in the new report.
At the Community and Environment Board meeting on Wednesday, 4th June 2025, Councillors were provided with a report that updated them on the progress of the Green Space Strategy and the Playing Pitch Strategy.
The Green Space Strategy recognises the vital role of open space in helping children and young people to develop skills through play and social interaction, and it commits the Authority to supporting the development of a strategic network of play facilities across the Borough.
The report highlights the progress made in recent years, such as Play Area Sites being developed/refurbished from 2021 through the Play Area Development Programme.
Furthermore, the report highlighted positive activity such as new K Barriers being installed at various locations, and tree management work being instructed on 56 different sites on 141 trees across the Borough.
Councillor Margaret Bell, Chair of Community and Environment Board, said:
“I’m particularly proud of the significant progress we’ve already made across the Borough, especially when it comes to the refurbishment of our play areas - it's a real step forward for families and young people in our communities."
