Wishaw Parish Council has successfully secured a grant from North Warwickshire Borough Council’s Local Community Fund to purchase CCTV cameras to catch and deter fly-tippers in Wishaw.
Wishaw is a very small parish, which experiences a lot of fly-tipping, and in recent months North Warwickshire Borough Council’s Environmental Crime Officer has installed signage regarding fly-tipping throughout Wishaw along with their own trail cameras in a bid to catch offenders committing crime.
Following discussions with Wishaw Parish Council regarding the fly-tipping concerns, the Environmental Crime Officer met with Parish Councillor Tom Fuller to advise on the purchasing of additional trail cameras. During their visit to the area, they identified several hotspots and suitable camera locations to capture the best evidence.
The Parish Council expressed strong interest in assisting the Council in gathering evidence to address the escalating issues related to fly-tipping and began a local crowd funding page to raise £500 for the acquisition of several cameras. To support this project, Borough Councillors have agreed to match the donations from their Local Community Fund to help Wishaw Parish Council reduce incidents of fly-tipping.
Wishaw and Moxhull Parish Councillor, Tom Fuller said:
“We are extremely grateful for the grant that we have received from North Warwickshire Borough Council’s Local Community Fund, fly-tipping incidents have seen a significant increase in recent months. The installation of additional cameras is anticipated to deter offenders and aid in apprehending those responsible in the area.”
North Warwickshire Borough Councillors, Councillor Sandra Smith and Councillor Martin Watson said:
“We are delighted to have awarded the £500 grant to Wishaw Parish Council for the additional camaras. The Local Community Fund provides much needed financial support for a wide range of projects to make a real and positive difference within communities.”
