Don't scan QR Codes in RingGo car parks

Recently, there has been an increase in 'QR Code scams' in car parks across North Warwickshire.

North Warwickshire Borough Council use RingGo for residents to pay for their parking. Common ways that residents pay for their parking is RingGo's smartphone app, a phone call (dial 01827 217 700), SMS text messages, and online via the RingGo website 'MyRingGo'.

Fraudsters have adopted a new scam to catch members of the public out. They print out stickers that display fake QR codes, that lead residents to an unofficial website, tricking them into thinking they're on the official page. The aim is to get people to 'pay' for their parking using their fake QR code, and the money goes straight to the scammer.

North Warwickshire Borough Council and RingGo do NOT use QR codes on any machines across the Borough. The only ways to pay for your parking are:

  • RingGo's Smartphone App
  • Dialling 01827 217 700 to pay by telephone
  • Registering on the RingGo app or website and paying by SMS (81025) using a location code
  • Online website
  • Card-only machines
  • Season ticket subscriptions

North Warwickshire Borough Council are taking swift and appropriate action to remove all QR Codes from our parking machines and signs. We politely remind residents to never scan a QR code to pay for parking in North Warwickshire. If anyone sees a QR Code sticker in a car park on the tariff board or P&D machine, contact us on councilcarparks@northwarks.gov.uk.
