North Warwickshire Borough Council has introduced a Flexible Plastic Recycling scheme. Flexible (or soft) plastics can now be placed in the red-lidded recycling bin for fortnightly collection.
The plastic must be empty and clean, free from food residue. You can now recycle the following items:
- confectionary wrappers (for example, chocolate wrappers, sweets, biscuit wrappers, cake wrappers, ice cream wrappers, chewing gum wrappers),
- foil lined packaging,
- plastic film and sleeves,
- bubble wrap,
- food wrapping,
- fruit and vegetable net bags,
- outer layer bags and wrapping (for example, multipacks, toilet and kitchen roll, magazine and newspaper wrapping)
- clean cheese, fish, and meat wrapping.
The new scheme encourages residents to recycle a wider range of plastics in their household red-lidded bins. North Warwickshire Borough Council’s partner, Sherbourne Recycling Centre, will process the recycled plastics and use them to make new plastic products such as plastic packaging, ‘bags for life’, boxes, bins and agricultural and construction materials.
Councillor Margaret Bell, Chair of Community & Environment Board, said:
“Being able to recycle a wider range of materials is a great benefit for our residents and the environment. It's reassuring to know that Sherbourne Recycling Centre is turning our recycling into new plastic products, helping to make a real, positive impact.”
Residents are able to view what they can and can’t recycle by visiting North Warwickshire Borough Council’s website.
