Top cyclists from all over the world got on their bikes as Atherstone was proud to host the fourth stage of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men’s Cycle Tour on Friday 5th September 2025.

Hundreds of spectators flocked to Atherstone Town centre to welcome the riders and see the start of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men Cycle Tour, which headed through North Warwickshire up to Burton Dassett Hills Country Park.

Before setting off, the cyclists stepped onto the stage in the Market Square to introduce their teams to the gathered crowd. After the final announcements, they made their way to the starting line outside St Mary’s Church, ready to begin the challenge ahead.  As the signal was given, the cyclists surged forward, wheels spinning and the crowd cheering behind them. In a matter of seconds, they were out of the square and onto the open road.

The cyclists made their way through the streets of Atherstone, heading into the first stretch of the route. Spectators, including students and their teachers, lined the roads as the riders passed through, cheering and waving flags, marking the beginning of this stage of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men. Heading deeper into Warwickshire, the riders began to face the long and testing route toward Burton Dassett Hills. Atherstone’s Market Square was buzzing with activity, a large screen allowed spectators to follow the action live and keep the excitement going to its conclusion.

Free health checks were also offered in the Market Square by Atherstone Leisure Complex staff, which were popular with visitors. Nearby, the Leisure Complex ran a fun competition, challenging people to see who could cycle 1km the fastest, with prizes for the top male and female riders.
Atherstone’s mascot, Arthur Stone, joined the event, happily taking photos with visitors and enjoying the lively atmosphere throughout the day.

That excitement was shared by a number of local businesses along Long Street, who decorated their shop fronts with a cycling theme, as part of North Warwickshire Borough Council’s Window Dressing Competition, which was judged by the Mayor, Councillor Debbie Bates. The winner, Bargain Box, was chosen on the 3rd of September.

Leader of the Council, Councillor David Wright, said:
"It has been truly remarkable to witness the community unite for this outstanding event in our town. With its historic charm, the Market Square makes the perfect setting, and it’s a real honour for North Warwickshire to be part of such a prestigious sporting event. The buzz in the town and excitement on everyone’s faces truly show how much this race means to Atherstone and North Warwickshire Borough Council hopes the event will inspire people to become more active, given the great opportunities for sport and recreation that exist in North Warwickshire. Congratulations to all the riders for their incredible effort and determination today.”
