Residents in North Warwickshire can now recycle Tetra Pak cartons in their red-lidded bin collections.
This long-awaited change means it’s easier than ever to recycle everyday items like juice and milk cartons, helping our community reduce waste and support a greener future.
What are Tetra Pak cartons?
Tetra Pak is a type of carton often used for long-life products like:
-
Juice
-
Soup
-
Plant-based milk (e.g. oat, almond)
-
Some dairy milk
They are usually made of cardboard with a thin layer of plastic or foil inside.
Do I need to clean the cartons before recycling them?
Yes. Please:
-
Rinse out the carton to remove any leftover liquid or food
-
Flatten it if possible
-
Put the cap back on (this helps with recycling and keeps it tidy)
Which types of cartons are accepted?
You can recycle:
-
Fruit juice cartons
-
UHT and long-life milk cartons
-
Soup and stock cartons
-
Plant-based milk cartons (e.g. oat, soy, almond)
-
Any Tetra Pak-style drink cartons
Do I need to remove any plastic lids or straws?
No. Please leave the lid on and put any attached plastic straws back inside the carton before recycling.
Why was Tetra Pak not recyclable before?
Tetra Pak is made from a mix of materials (cardboard, plastic, and sometimes foil), which used to be difficult to recycle. We now have access to facilities that can separate and recycle these materials properly.
