North Warwickshire Borough Council has announced £27M plans for a new Atherstone Leisure Centre with modern fitness, leisure, and community facilities. Public feedback sessions begin in November.
North Warwickshire Borough Council has revealed ambitious plans for a brand-new leisure centre in Atherstone, set to replace the town’s existing facility and deliver a modern, inclusive space for health, fitness, and community wellbeing.
The proposed development represents a major investment in the borough’s future, with a wide range of facilities designed to meet the needs of residents of all ages and abilities.
The new centre will include:
• A main 4-lane swimming pool and a learner pool for all levels of ability
• A toddler splash pad for water play
• A state-of-the-art gym with the latest fitness equipment
• A dedicated studio for fitness classes
• A welcoming community space for events and activities
• An adventure play zone for children
• A café offering refreshments and a place to relax
The new building will sit in a similar location as the existing leisure centre, and the new facility will face onto an attractive public space leading from Long Street.
The Council will be engaging with the public and key stakeholders over the coming weeks to gather feedback and ensure the final plans reflect local priorities, with public drop-in sessions in the Atherstone Leisure Centre, where the concept plans will be available to view. The first drop-in sessions are planned for Monday 3rd November between 6:30pm to 8:00pm and Wednesday 5th November from 7:00am to 5:00pm.
Additional sessions will be held across the Borough in the coming weeks, with dates and times to be announced shortly.
Chair of Community and Environment Board, Councillor Margaret Bell, said:
"It’s truly exciting to see this project take shape. The new leisure centre will be a cutting-edge facility that inspires generations to come. It will offer a safe, community-centred space where people of all ages can get active, connect, and thrive through a wide range of sports and leisure activities."
Leader of the Council, Councillor David Wright, said:
“This new leisure centre is a major step forward for Atherstone and North Warwickshire — a vibrant, welcoming space where people can stay active. It’s a proud moment for our community, and a lasting legacy we’re building for future generations."
Updates will be shared regularly via the Council’s website and social media channels.
A planning application is expected to be submitted in the new year, with construction anticipated to begin in Summer 2026.
