Councillor Debbie Bates was appointed Mayor at North Warwickshire Borough Council’s Annual Meeting on Wednesday 14th May 2025.
The ceremonial robes and chains were handed over by outgoing Mayor Councillor Colin Hayfield, after what he described as “a fantastic year and a great honour.”
Mayor Debbie Bates will be supported by the newly appointed Deputy Mayor, Councillor Davina Ridley.
On appointment, Councillor Bates firstly thanked the previous Mayor Councillor Colin Hayfield for his amazing work during his time as Mayor.
She then went on to say “If you had told me a few years ago that I would have the privilege of serving local members of our community as a Borough Councillor and Parish Councillor for Kingsbury I would have thought you’d gone mad, yet here I am not only doing my best to represent the amazing community which I live in but also now having the privilege to represent North Warwickshire Borough Council as Mayor.”
Councillor Bates moved to Kingsbury in North Warwickshire 20 years ago from Birmingham and has lived here happily bringing up three children, all of whom have completed their school education at Kingsbury schools before moving on to college and university.
In 2023 she was elected as a Borough Councillor the Kingsbury ward. She is also a Kingsbury Parish Councillor, additionally taking on the role as Deputy Chair for Kingsbury Parish Council.
The Mayor has chosen to support and raise money for local community hubs and spaces during her mayoral year.
