Purposes of the processing

The Council will process your personal information supplied with your Right to Buy application form to assist you in the purchase of your property.  Your information will only be shared with the relevant officers of the Council, who may be involved in the sale of the property, other Social Housing providers to establish previous tenancies, where necessary, the Council’s Valuer who will provide a valuation of the property, and the Council’s Surveyor who will prepare a detailed plan of the property.  Details of your application will be kept confidential within the scope of the Right to Buy process.  If your application is referred to the Department for Communities and Local Government, or the Valuation Office Agency, the Council may be requested to share details of your application with these authorities.

The Council will process your information relating to your Right to Buy application for your legitimate interest.

The Council will keep records of the Right to Buy application received for no longer than 6 years in line with our Records Retention and Disposal Policy.

Your rights set out in the Data Protection Act are applicable to the processing of your information for your Right to Buy application.  You can withdraw your consent for the processing of your personal information as part of your Right to Buy application at any stage of the process, but this may limit or prevent the Council’s ability to complete the sale of the property to you.  The Council will process your Right to Buy application under the provisions specified in the Housing Act 1985 and all of its subsequent and subordinate legislation.

The Council will regularly review this privacy notice to take into account any changes in the processing of information and any changes in legislation.
