Housing (Focus Area 4)

The Council owns 2600 dwelling that are rented out providing homes for residents in North Warwickshire. As the owner of these property the Council is responsible for reducing emissions of these properties by ensuring homes are energy efficient. By improving the energy efficiency of buildings by improving insulation, installing new windows and door, reducing drafts and other methods, the amount of energy and heating each building needs can be reduced, this in turn reduces the emissions of these dwellings.

What the Council needs to do

  • Ongoing retrofit of existing homes
  • Build new homes to a low or zero carbon standard
  • Engage our tenants to help us deliver solutions

What we are doing

Home Upgrade Grant

After securing funding through the Home Upgrade grant, the Council delivered a range of energy efficiency measures to residents’ properties across the borough. This funding saw energy efficiency measures to 24 private properties in 24/25. This amounted to £491,164.08 and covered 46 measures:

  • 8 External Wall Insulations
  • 2 Internal Wall Insulations
  • 7 Loft Insulations
  • 4 Cavity Wall Insulations
  • 12 Solar Installs
  • 11 Air Source Heat Pumps
  • 2 installs of new high retention storage heaters

These improvements will see homes be warmer, more comfortable and significantly release Carbon emissions from these properties.

Upgrading energy efficiency of flats

In 2024 the energy efficiency of 34 flats has been improved by the retrofitting work undertaken by the Council’s housing team. This work includes improving the wall insulation, and the installation of new windows at these flats. Less heat lost results in lower energy bills, and lower Carbon emissions.
