Mayor of North Warwickshire - Councillor Tony Clews

Councillor Tony Clews

Mayor May 2022/23

Tony was born in Burton-on-Trent and lived there up to the age of 18.

He is the youngest of four children, with two sisters and one brother who sadly passed away at the age of 49.

Tony is married to Denise and has a stepson, Craig, and a grandson, Jack.

Tony worked at Gleneagles Hotel for 3 years before joining the RAF as a steward at the age of 20.  During the 9 years in the RAF he served in the first Gulf War in 1991 and was awarded the Gulf War medal.  He is proud to be the Veterans Champion for North Warwickshire Borough Council.

Tony has been a Town Councillor since May 2015 and was elected Town Mayor from May 2017.  He became a Borough Councillor in May 2018, representing Atherstone South, Mancetter and Ridge Lane.  Denise is also a Borough and Town Councillor.

Tony has been involved with local events, such as the Atherstone Dickens event and Summer in the Square and he has also called the bingo at the local Gateway Club.  He thoroughly enjoyed all of these.

Tony is privileged to have been accepted into Atherstone and, after 30 years, he is proud to call it his home.

Tony had the privilege of being consort to his wife Denise when she became mayor of North Warwickshire in 2018/19 which gave him a good insight of what to expect now he is Borough Mayor.

Tony hopes to represent North Warwickshire to the best of his ability and raise money for his charity “The Veterans contact point”.
